天津京铁火车头足球俱乐部成立于1989年，俱乐部前身为中国火车头足球俱乐部成立于1952年，在1994-1997年参加全国甲B联赛，在中国足球职业化进程中火车头足球俱乐部率先建立青少年梯队，开创了规范的青训体系，形成以苏伟为代表的高素质，业务精的教练团队，培养了以李玮峰、李毅、曲波、杨军、冯仁亮、宋博轩为代表的优秀球员，先后入选各级国家队达几十人。
火车头足球俱乐部被足球界誉为中国的阿贾克斯。当今在中央领导重视足球运动发展和两会对足球改革的重视，火车头俱乐部已与俱乐部所在地天津市河北区教育局开展校园足球运动，同时俱乐部足球队与企业联手征战新的一轮中乙联赛。火车头的口号是：再创新、追卓越。
